On behalf of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA), we are pleased to announce the 9th ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting. ISHA 2017 to be held in Santiago, Chile, from the 12th-to 14th October 2017. We are particularly excited by the 2017 venue, where you will have the opportunity to visit this outstandingly beautiful city.

The ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting provides a unique international forum for attendees to share scientific information and learn about the latest advances of arthroscopic and open surgery for hip preservation. The two and a half day meeting will include a variety of symposia, lectures and paper presentations. In addition, a Trainee Presentation Prize, lunchtime surgical skills sessions, electronic posters, technical exhibits, and a Welcome Reception will also be offered.

Judged by an ISHA-selected panel, the 2017 Trainee Prizes will be awarded to the Orthopaedic trainee who delivers the best presentation in clinical science and basic sciences. Finalists for the prize will be selected based on their abstract and invited to present during the scientific session. This prize, of US $600 for ISHA menbers, will be awarded at the 2017 ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Greetings! I hope everyone is doing well and making plans to attend ISHA 2017 in Santiago de Chile, on October 12-14 2017.

Rodrigo Mardones is hosting this year and we both are very excited to be working on the program. The title of the meeting is “Preserving Hips and Enhancing Life “.

As hip surgeons we impact the lives of our patients allowing them to remain healthy, active and whole, not just technically fixing the hip. The cost of hip disease to the individual and to society is not being recognized in the way it should be by health payment authorities; nor are the contributions of our field to understanding the anatomy, biomechanics, clinical or treatment modalities in the critical role the hip plays in maintaining a healthy life or society.

For these reasons we will begin the first day with the cost of suffering to the individual, family and society. On Thursday arthroscopic surgeons, physical therapists, open surgeons and reconstructive surgeons will be together (as many surgeons are involved in all aspects in South America) sharing the advancements in the basics of anatomy, biomechanics and clinical diagnostic techniques and the goal of furthering the common language of our field. The day will be full but not dense with time to discuss and breakout for numerous equally important corridor consults and discussions important to our society and progress in our field.

Friday is going to be held in three rooms with ICLS in the morning. A paper presentation room will run simultaneous to the arthroscopic/ open hip symposium while the physical therapists will host the closed treatment of hip disorders section.

The final day we will once again be together to discuss the future and exciting directions of biologics, combine open and arthroscopic techniques, hip-spine disease and cartilage. A cadaver skills lab will be hosted during the meeting.

We are also planning a robust program for spouses - with many different options available. Further information is available on the meeting website- ishameetings.cl.

If you have any insight or desire to help organize a section of the program please email me at haldavidmartin@yahoo.com.

The program will be finalized after abstracts submission closes.

I am sincerely honored to help with this year’s program and look forward to begin receiving abstracts soon.

Kindest regards and gratitude,

Hal David Martin

Dear Friends and Colleagues of the Hip Surgery,

It is a pleasure to invite all of you who are interested in hip preservation surgery, and in particular the growing membership of ISHA to come and participate in the 9th ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting to be held in Santiago, Chile, 12 - 14 October, 2017.

This year's Annual Scientific Meeting will be held at the Marriott and Courtyard Hotels, located in the exclusive Las Condes neighborhood. These two locations are within walking distance. Also, we have booked accommodations in both hotels and others close to few blocks away.

Once in Santiago Professor Hal Martin has organized an exciting academic program that will bring together surgeons, physiotherapists and other clinicians for a meeting that will cover all aspects of hip preservation surgery and pre and post-operative rehabilitation.

We have also planned a social program that includes culturally rich corners and gastronomy and a gala dinner on Friday night at Santa Carolina Vineyard, which promises to be a memorable evening for everyone. There are many other "things to do" in Santiago.

Chile, is a destination that attracts for its diversity and vitality. Throughout its narrow fifteen regions you can discover spectacular scenery among the driest desert in the world, eternal ice, humid forests, vibrant cities and picturesque highland villages.

Its long shape gives rise to a wide variety of climates and landscapes, ranging from the driest desert in the world in the extreme north, to the eternal ice of the southern end. Between these two radical scenarios, an astonishing variety of ecosystems come alive, which generally remain arid to the north and greener to the south. Also from east to west, the landscapes change radically, passing from the enormous peaks of the Andes mountain range in the east, to the beaches bathed by the Pacific Ocean in the west.

I look forward to welcoming you to Santiago in October, and learn with you all the latest advances in the field of hip preservation surgery, which is rapidly evolving. I am sure you will have a truly memorable and enjoyable experience.

Rodrigo Mardones
ISHA Local Chairman 2017
